Using technology and classical principles, Jose Villalobos creates and designs sounds that are unique and groundbreaking. Early in his career, he worked with various types of computers to bring forth complex orchestrations and compositions. These computers enabled him to learn more about sound, its components and the possibilities of these machines.
In 2006, his work was brought to the big screen in Antonio Banderas’ directorial debut in the Spanish film, Summer Rain. His brilliant work won Best European Movie in the Berlinale Film Festival. It was the collaboration with Banderas that lead Jose to his first major motion picture in the United States.
THE KITE RUNNER, a critically acclaimed novel by Khaled Hosseini, was optioned to be brought to the silver screen. Award winning director Marc Foster and two time Academy Award nominee, Alberto Iglesias were working together on the soundtrack for this film. Iglesias and Jose worked as a team to create a rich landscape of sound that would lead to an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Soundtrack, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture, and Satellite Award for Best Original Soundtrack.
This success lead him to make the transition from Spain to the United States, where he was hired to compose the NBC Tv series, “THE PHILANTHROPIST”, produced by Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson and Peter Horton.
One of his last score for the movie "THE INVISIBLE EYE", wich was premier on CANNES FILM FESTIVAL, has been nominated for BEST ORIGINAL MUSIC in the ARGENTINA ACADEMY AWARDS and INTERNATIONAL CRITIC AWARDS
Some of his last works owns a Nomination for the Academy Awards in Argentina, and a Nomination for the International Crticic Awards. He is based in Los Angeles.
